On the very first day, I got myself very acquainted with the office pantry. So much so, my first conversation in there was about marriage with one my new colleague. So there I was, stirring my Milo with the cleaner auntie washing the floor when my colleague said this to me.
"How old are you? Wah, 26 ah. Not bad, still young. Married already? Not yet? Ah, don't worry. You're still young. Think of how to get a 3-room flat first. Don't think about girls"
I was still stirring my Milo and nodding in acknowledgment when suddenly, the cleaner auntie said, "Here many 'Suter'."
Suter as in Suitors? I know there are many ladies in the office but I was thinking to myself, this auntie's vocab ain't that bad after all, considering the fact that she speaks Mandarin to everybody most of the time.
"Many suitors ah auntie? Lol." I laughed and she replied.
"Yeah, here many 'suters'." She bent down, opened up the cabinet.
She handed me a few packets of 'sugars' for my Milo.
I shook my head in disbelief. Lost in translation again. There goes my sweet tooth.
