What can I say. The picture speaks for itself. It's kinda weird, not having the same empathy that I felt for Aceh. Some profoundly believe that we don't feel as much because the event did not happen as near as Aceh. Is it a good reasoning? I don't know. Or is it because deep down we just have this dark feeling that the US deserves it? For all those 'crimes' that they had done and this is the retribution that it should deserved? But not all of the AMERICANS are bad right? It's a rhetorical statement. I'm gonna mind fuck you guys for today only.
People have been talkin about it; from the singlish speaking taxi driver, trying to strike a conversation to a student that is already late for a presentation, the malayngish speaking barber who asked the customer which school that he is attending to charge the right rates, to the indian mama shop vendor who simply, well, does nothing. Each have their own different point of views. None of which interests me.
A state that was once a haven for jazz music, has now turned into a piece of melancholic orchestra. A state once visted by American Idol 2, now humbled to the ground by a force that could never be stopped. For once, now, I am glad that US took a step back and realised that it is not a superpower after all, not a god that could determine how a country should be ruled. For once, the world could see the weakness of the superpowers and how brittle it can be when faced with a tragedy like this.
Sufferings and chaos are certainly derivatives of an aftermath like the tsunami and Katrina. But what is interesting is the post aftermath in 2 different countries.
From Wikepedia
The New Orleans Police Department provides professional police services to the public in order to maintain order and protect life and property.
A state that I perceived as peaceful and tranquil has now settled in a state of anarchy. Who can blame them? No offence, but people were already having the survival mindset. In the words of Adam Smith, each for his own good.
1. What I am puzzled with is that, back when Aceh was in distress, it was never in a state of anarchy. But why was New Orleans?
2. People are more than willing to help Aceh when they were in distress, but why not New Orleans?
Seriously, I dunno.
