Watch left and right

At times like this, I feel that our life has always been controlled by traffic lights. Yes, traffic lights. We are have been programmed and governed by the green, amber and red lights. Even when the road is clear, we don't dare to jaywalk. Ever considered why?

Nobody wanted to help me in my deferment. The SMU admin stuff wasn't that helpful in facilitating me in my deferment, instead, they said they could do anything at all. Bullshit. I get what I want and I'll go all out for it. I gave a call to the Police Headquarters and seek advice. Apparently, they said that I am not supposed to go for reservist because I am still a full-time undergrad. And all I need was verification that I am an undergrad. Took me only 15 mins to get the job done. See? If I had just accepted the fact by these people that I can't defer, I won't be able to do a lot of things during summer.

Same goes for society. When society has a slanted view towards something, that doesn't mean you have to conform to it. For example, the local music industry has been growing gradually over the past few years but still society sees music as a non-viable option as a career. But that doesn't mean that you cannot pursue it. If you think you can't go local, then go regional. Society is a like a disease that is hard to cure. When they say this is bad, then it is bad. If you go against them, you're considered as one of the black sheeps. So? It's not as if society is going to pay you your monthly salary every month. We're too worried about society's perception on us that we lose track of what our true goals are. I am a victim of this society at times.

Take for example, how many of you out there have declared your single major? How many you out there are going to graduate without any majors? Do we need to graduate with any majors in the first place? A friend of mine is doing so well without majoring and gave me good valid reasons for doing so. We need to major because everybody is majoring. We want to do double majors because most of our friends are, so why shouldn't we? Are we afraid to lose out or are we using the phrase, "I don't want to regret later on" as an excuse. To me, this are wrong reasons which would lead to bad decisions. We should not be making this bad decisions. Bad decisions not taken are good decisions. This societal mentality is the red light that doesn't allow us to excel in our true form; many friends say this is not good, don't do this, therefore you don't do it. The yellow light makes us slow down from our progress because we see a red light coming. To me, life should always be green but nevertheless you gotta keep your eyes open and check your bearings at all time, whether you're on the right track or not.

At the current moment, the light is green but at times, yellow seems to flicker. I hate it. Must be spoil this traffic light.

-throws helmet at the traffic light-
-light turns to green-

There, much better. Keep focus on your objective ladies and gentleman. The only takeaway you should have from this post is to always have laser sharp focus in whatever you want to do. Temptations will cross your way but think more of the long run instead of short term rewards. Remember, laser sharp focus.
