Part I deals with Naresuan's boyhood, when he was taken hostage by Burmese King Bayinnaung to keep the vassal Ayutthaya Kingdom subservient. During much of this time, he was a novice Buddhist monk under the tutelage of a wise father-figure monk (Sorapong Chatree).

From left, Bunting, Naresuan's faithful sidekick, Manechan, future wife, and young Naresuan, the future Big Boss Man.

Part II depicts Naresuan as a young adult prince, already a formidable military strategist, as he leads his army on exploits against breakaway kingdoms for King Bayinnaung's successor, King Nonthabureng, and eventually breaks away to declare sovereignty for Siam.

We enjoyed King Naresuan 1 so much that we were willing to spend another 3 more hours to watch King Naresuan 2 on the same night. It was crazy but at least the storyline was still moving in our heads.
Watch it. You won't regret it. I'll try and get a DVD over here and share it with those who want to watch it with me next time.
