Yes, you read it right. For those truly hard core SMU students, you would have known that my first band was called CCP, the Carribean Curry Puffs. It still remains fresh in my memory. House 1. Our own amps, our own guitars and our own drums. Nobody provided us with anything except their listening ears. Do you guys remember that? Yeah, those were the glorious days in my eyes where everything was raw and pure. And you guys came down, took the time to sit down and clap for us fellas who were just out to rock and roll during lunch time. LOL. Those were the Bukit Timah days. No Bukit Timah I Cry. Forever Bukit Timah.
I guess as a person who enjoys listening and playing music, i've seen the growth of the music scene in SMU. I've performed for many SMU functions before and i've seen many types of crowd. When we first started, people didn't wanna hear us much. They'd rather eat. I'm kewl with that but i still remembered that my rebel self was trying to emerge from within because i danced like a madman to the song of Give It Away by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, right in front of the Business Lobby and people were just staring at my antiques. Money has never crossed my mind when it comes to playing music. If i'm lucky in SMU, money would just be a by-product of what i really love to do. But, things progressed from there.
Back in Ground Zero, we had our first paid gig outside Paragon Orchard. We had like 2 half-hour sets to be played and we managed to pull that off. The hardcore SMU supporters came to watch us. I'm greatly indebted for their support. If you're one of those reading this, i can never thank you guys enough. Without supporters, really, we're really nobody. We practice hard to perform not for us, but for the people who are willing to stop and listen. And when we see you guys enjoy yourself, i guess, our mission is complete.
Then, there was the Boon Lay gig. That, i swear, was one of the best external gigs i've every played in my life. Shared the same stage as Taufik and Syl but the crowd was really great. They sang along and scream till i got high. Shiook level 8. Carnaval at Chijmes was the chillout gig and not forgetting Arts Fest. Great gigs, great people. But one made history thus far.
History was written yesterday. On the stage. Grand Opening was the occasion. 20th of January 2006 marks the moment where music bonded two classes of people; the faculty and the students of SMU. And how sweet it was when i saw that everybody was enjoying themselves, singing along and jumping together to the tempo of great songs. OH MY GAWD, i swear. When people started screaming when i was standing on stage, i felt as if i was at the national stadium man! Surreallllll.
Songlist:
My Immortal (Band version)

One Day (original)
Spin (lifehouse)
Give It Away (Red hot chilli padi)
Yesterday, i sang, One Day. Written by an inspiration. Written for the inspiration. It's true. If da song makes it, you're part of the whole success. I hope you guys love the song. Remember the melody, "ONE DAY! We'll figure it out." We're singing that song for our Jam X audition on Sunday, 22nd January, 6.40pm, Youth Park. Hope this song brings us luck. Do drop by if you guys are free or something. Give me a call ya?
I love the stage. I love the energy. As i've said yesterday, "This concert is not 7 Till Dawn's concert, this is OUR concert together, YOU and I." And i still believe that the only way that a concert will ever be successful is when there is a two way connection between audience and performers. Yesterday, it happened. It was a success.
Look out for our next gig ok? Oh, I'll be featuring for just one song for Patron's day. I'm honoured to be invited by another great musician. Do look out for Syarifah's gig aight? Patron's day. 7 Till Dawn aint playing though.
p.s. can you guys do me a favour? for those who have photos of yesterday's great gig, do send a link so that everybody who reads this can see da photos ya? that'll be awesome. if you dont want to share, its ok, the very least just send me a personal email perhaps because i dont own a digital camera. i'm still stuck in the stoneage way of taking photos. Thanks ya!
