But before that, I had to pop by admin to get my letter of acceptance again. This is my great friend Isabelle, Director of International Relations. She rawks!!! I will be personally flown with 7 Till Dawn to her wedding in Langkawi. Let me repeat, personally flown. I will be from Bangkok and then I will fly back to Bangkok again. Never been to Langkawi before.
Anyways, I was late and had to take a taxi there. Reached at about 11am. It took quite a while to process some of the documents and when it was already done up, it was already 1130am and I still have not taken my passport sized photos yet. The embassy will be closing at 12noon SHARP. No kidding. SHARP!
I took the documents and tried my luck. Ying told me to go to Bras Basah Complex and find a shop that can do my photo in 10mins. I ran as fast as my weary body could bring me.
When I was at the photo shop, I told the auntie straight to the point.
Me: "Auntie, I need to get to the embassy by 12noon sharp. Take my photo quickly"
Auntie: "Orh, ok. Sit. Smile"
Me: -smiled-
SNAP!
Auntie: "Want to see?"
Me: "No need auntie, can already! You just go develop"
She was really helping me out. She ran to her machine and did whatever that needed to be done while I went out in and thought about how to get to the embassy in the shortest amount of time.
Taxi? No... Traffic jam leh brudder. Bus? That's the end of my exchangelah. Motorbikes... Hmm... In Thailand, you can actually pay a motortaxi for 1 Singapore Dollars. Hmm... I think I was bringing some Thailand back to Singapore. But who was willing to lend me his bike...? As I walked around the bend, I saw McDonalds and a bunch of dispatch riders. Yup You guessed it alright.
I went up to them and said.
Me: "Brudders, I need your help. I will pay you to get me to the embassy. I need to be there by 12noon. Can anybody help?"
Everybody looked around in amazement by what they just heard.
Dispatch guy: -raised his hands- "I'll do it. I have nothing to do anyway."
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G....
I told him to wait for 5mins and just get ready for my signal to just whizz off.
I went back to the auntie and paid her in advance. She took out the photos and started to cut them quickly. I just crossed my arms and stared at her cutting my pics.
Auntie: "Eh boy. -cut my photo into tiny pieces with gigantic chopping board- you making me nervousleh. What if i chop off my fingers? -cut photo again-
Me: "Auntie, you got insurance or not?"
Auntie: "Don't have leh..."
Me: "Ok ok. You cut slowly"
Sheesh.....
Anyways, once she put the photos into a small plastic bag, I ran towards the dispatch guy. Time check, 1145am. 15 more minutes!
The guy saw me and quickly put on his helmet with the spare given to me.
Me: "Let's go bro!"
Dispatch guy: "OK GO!"
HE WAS AMAZING. I mean, you want fast? I got the right guy right there! He's a dispatch rider for goodness sake. He whizzed past cars like cutting onions. Beat the yellow light and squeezed through any space that was available. The best part, just when I thought he was going the wrong way, he made an illegal right turn and went on the pavement instead.
Me: "Where are you going?"
Dispatch guy: "Shortcut bro."
Me: "CARRY ON!!!!"
I paid him in advance at a junction and even managed to tell him what I was doing and stuff. Short chit chat. When I arrived, it was 11.55am. 5 more minutes!!! I took out my helmet and ran in but turned back and asked for his name. I needed to know this fella man. Gafri. He works as a despatch at McDonalds near Bras Basah complex.
Smile bro. You're my hero. Big time.
Finally, got my stuff done up and returned back to Admin to settle some final stuff. I told Sudha about my short rendezvous with the despatch guy, she couldn't believed it. I brought Thailand back to Singapore. Lol. The things I would do to get things done. 7 February. A date to remember. It was coincidentally my birthday too and when I told Sudha, she brought me to Coffeebean and treated me to a CHEESECAKE!!! My fav!
That's Faith, me and Sudha.
Right after that, I went back to SMU to see who was available in school. Many thought they saw someone similar to me because they didn't expect my return to Singapore.
This is Jeffery. My AJC mate and project mate. Graduating soon bro!
The handsomest of them ALLLLLLLL.
Miss Tessa. Smile!
That's Izati. She hanged around with me and Jannah till late. I was pretty much sitting down at Pick and Bite and relaxing.
That's Jannah on the right in Red. We went to eat at the Halal Chinese food stall at Bugis. I need to taste chicken rice!
At Tangs, trying to find a V-neck.
Too tired. Parting photo shot with Jannah and off to meet with my childhood buddies.
These are the two fellas that made me the way I am today. Donno what I've become. Lol. But yeah. ME. We talked about my experience with the tigers and the ladyboys. YES. Ladyboys...
Reached home at about 9pm when I realized my mom wasn't home. Asked my sis where she went and was told she had already left to my late uncle's place.
Took a cab with my sister and sped off before any of my aunties and uncles left his place.
Managed to spend some quality time with my sister. She's 13. The growing up stage. The time to find out more about guys, having crushes, getting teased and remembering love songs about the boy that she thinks is really cute.
Man... I've really gotta take care of her.
My late uncle's family seemed to be handling his departure really well. I guess they kinda expected it. I tried to lighten the occasion by telling them about my stories. About how I lost my flip flops in Koh Phangan and got 2 mismatched flip flops that I found on the beach. I even told them that I travelled by land to Singapore. They just kept on laughing and laughing till it was time to say goodbye.
Time to head home tomorrow.
jamiel
goodbye Singapore.
